Cyclist emerging between parked cars

About the dashcam

A road-facing HD 1080p video stream with a 116° wide-angle lens. The camera records continuously while the ignition is on, looping over older footage as the SD card fills. The Event Button saves the current clip so it won't be overwritten. Tap it any time you want to keep what you've just recorded.

No. TruVisia is a single road-facing dashcam. It mounts on the windscreen.

Any time you want to save the clip that's just been recorded, tap the Event Button. The near-miss you didn't see coming, the car that pulled out without looking, the supercar you saw at the lights. One tap locks the clip so the camera won't overwrite it. Pull it onto your phone via the app whenever you're ready.

Setup and installation

Both Hard Wire and 12V DC come in the box. Pick Hard Wire for a clean install hidden behind the trim, or 12V DC if you'd rather plug into your cigarette socket. You only need one.

Most 12V sockets switch off with the ignition, but a few stay live. If yours stays powered when the engine's off, the 12V DC cable will slowly drain your battery. The OBD upgrade (£9.99) plugs into your OBD port instead and powers down with the car. To check, plug a phone charger into your 12V socket with the engine off. If your phone charges, your socket is live.

Around ten minutes with the 12V DC cable. A bit longer if you Hard Wire it, because you're tucking the cable behind the trim. No tools needed for either option.

Yes. The supplied mounting pad is automotive-grade and rated for the temperature swings UK cars see. Clean the glass with the wipe in the box first, position the camera, press firmly. You can reposition once before the adhesive sets, so check your angle on the first try.

The app

Yes. Free access on iOS and Android from day one. Live video, downloads, journey replay and incident reports are all included. There's a fair-use clause on cloud storage for the tiny number of users who'd upload hours every day, but a regular driver won't notice it.

iOS 15 and above. Android 10 and above. If your phone's from the last five years, you'll be fine.

The app talks to the dashcam over its own Wi-Fi connection, not your home network. You can pull live video and downloads with no mobile data needed. You only need internet if you want to share a clip out.
